Our Story
In 2013, our founders Emma and Leanne met while working for a high street fashion retailer in Langholm. They quickly became friends, but by 2014 they were officially a couple and they are now married with two children and one dog.
After working in fast fashion for seven years each, they were tired of the ever-declining quality and the constant push for cheaper manufacture and lower prices. In early 2019, they started looking at starting their own slow fashion venture and decided on the name Rose’s Wardrobe. The brand was named after Leanne’s Granny Rosie, who was a very important part of her life.
They were inspired by their relatives’ clothing in old photographs, and wanted to recreate the style and quality for the modern day.
Although we’ve come a long way as a business in the last four years, we still design and manufacture every piece in house using only the highest quality materials. Our hands-on approach to fashion makes ordering from Rose’s Wardrobe a very personal experience and allows us to build great relationships with our customers.
The Team
By 2021, the business had grown to the point that it was time to hire Rose’s Wardrobe’s first employee.
Anna had just graduated with a degree in fashion and moved to Langholm with her family, it was meant to be! She took over the social media and PR, as well as dabbling in pattern cutting, sewing, designing and a little bit of everything. As a team of three, we were able to take on more orders and take on some commission sewing work for local mills, helping to keep more of the manufacture process in the UK.
At the start of 2023, we took on Heather to oversee some of our commission work. She had previously worked in textiles, so it was great to get her back into the industry. Heather focuses on hand sewing, giving the rest of the team more time to focus on and custom orders.
We then took on Emily, who started off as a customer and now helps with the cutting and overlocking of our commission work as well as contributing to our blog.
Our Muses
Rose’s Wardrobe was built on the inspirational style of our founders’ family members. The brand is named after Leanne’s Granny Rose, but our other muses include Emma’s Great Grandma Edna and Nanna Patricia, as well as Leanne’s Great-Aunts Elizabeth and Lillias. In 2022 we added two new muses - Anna’s Great Grandma Dot and Great Granny Bunty. Each of our classic styles is named after one of these important women.
The team have fond memories of dressing up in their Grannies’ clothes, looking through old pictures and admiring the fashions of bygone times. Rose’s Wardrobe’s aim is to produce replicas of the beautiful clothes they had in their wardrobes, made to measure to fit our customers perfectly.
